Recreating Community

In our last post we talked about reemerging into our musical spaces, slowly and safely. It’s been a challenging process in so many ways—we all have different approaches to life, and what makes us feel comfortable! But we also have a lot of trust in each other, and need to sing together again, so we’re moving forward, with masks and distanced, but together in a space.

It’s not that we haven’t been singing in the past year-plus—we have! But online is NOT the same, as we all know—you don’t get to see the look in someone’s eyes when a really cool crunch happens in the music, you don’t get to think, “wow, I really can blend with that person even though our voices are so different”, and you definitely don’t get that swell of sound that makes you feel viscerally part of something so much bigger than yourself.

And in addition to that, PEV has added quite a few new singers this year, and given them such a warm welcome. Even after so long apart, during a tough time that’s changed so many people and groups, PEV was able to come together again and restore connections and make new ones! We’ve even gotten to dig deep and get into how to make better music—here’s a picture of the recent retreat in which we had coaching and small group work to take us to the next level.

Come check it out at one of our December performances—the singing, and the community!
