Dorian/Sono Luminus released Dave Brubeck’s Sacred Choral Works: Songs of Praise in 2010. It presents sacred music performed by Pacific Edge Voices — then Pacific Mozart Ensemble (PME) — and Quartet San Francisco. It includes the large work Canticles, Credo composed by Dave for PME’s 25th anniversary, and Brubeck’s setting of a Benediction, which he wrote in 2009 for the Pacific Mozart Ensemble.
On September 25, 2012, Dorian/Sono Luminus released our second recording performing Dave Brubeck’s compositions, Brubeck & American Poets.
Dave Brubeck, revered as a jazz pianist, was a composer of a rich stream of choral music. A perusal of Brubeck’s choral catalog shows that most of his lyricists are beloved American poets, including Langston Hughes and Wendell Berry. This disc gives musical form to Brubeck’s love of American poets and his thoughts about the poets and the composition of these works are included in the booklet.
Recorded at world famous Skywalker Sound, with notes by ensemble director Lynne Morrow and Mr. Brubeck, this album features premiere recordings of new choral music by one of America’s most beloved musicians and composers loved the world over, and is sure to enlighten, uplift, and entertain classical and jazz fans alike.
Selected recordings from Brubeck & American Poets may be heard here on Youtube.

Pacific Edge Voices has a rich history of arrangers recruited from within the ranks of the ensemble, particularly in the Jazz & Pop genres. One of our star arrangers was Eric Freeman. This is his arrangement of My Girls by the rock group Animal Collective.
